#0183;#32;Sabodala is located in Senegal, some 650km east of the capital Dakar. The project contains two deposits Sabodala and Niakafiri which lie in a granted 20km#178; mining concession. The project is 90% owned through MDLs operating company Sabodala Gold Operations SA, 10% by the Government of the Republic of Senegal.
The Sabodala gold project is located in the far west of Senegal, about 650 km south east of the capital, Dakar. The geology of this area is known as the Birimian belt of west Africa. In many of the surrounding countries, this geological belt hosts large and globally significant gold deposits including a number of large deposits nearby across the border in Mali.
The Sabodala gold mine project is the only large scale gold mining operation in Senegal and it has been in operation since 2009. #0183;#32;Sabodala is currently being produced by two deposits, namely Sabodala and Niakafiri. Both deposits are situated in the granted mining concession area of square miles ( square kilometres). A third deposit, named Gora, is expected to come on stream in 2013. Sutuba, lying adjacent to Sabodala, is the fourth deposit.
Terenga Gold plans to integrate the Massawa project with its existing Sabodala gold mining operation. Barrick Gold completed a feasibility study for the Massawa gold project in July 2019, which projected annual production of more than 200,000 ounces (oz) of gold over an estimated mine life of 10 years, with a capital investment of #163;318m (412m).
